Who Will The Blades 2nd Round Opponent Be?

Well it comes down to 2 teams Medicine Hat or Brandon. The Tigers came back from being down 2-0 against the Ice and won the series 4 games to 2.

Brandon swept the Swift Current Broncos 4-0.

In the regular season against the Wheat Kings the Blades only won 3 games out of 8.

Against the Medicine Hat Tigers the Blades posted a record of 3-1 but 3-2 if you count the Exhibition game in Aberdeen.

So these two opponents match up pretty good against the Blades, but you can basically throw those stats out the window but I was just doing this as a comparison.

The Blades will know who they face by tomorrow night.

Me personally since I have been to Medicine Hat I would like to see a game in Brandon but I am sure that other Blades fans want the bridge city bunch to play the Tigers. I do as well but "The Arena" is a tough place to play in.

Blades Win 2 Games In Red Deer....Sweep Rebels.

Let me say that the entire trip in Red Deer was a blast!!! It was my first time visiting the beautiful city. Both hockey games were entertaining and the Rebels sure played well dispite loosing both games.

The scores were 2-1 Blades in game #3 and 5-2 for the Blades in the final game #4.

The Blades will now wait to see who they play, and when.

Sena Acolatse,Darian Dzuirzynski, and Duncan Siemens have 1 game left to serve in their suspensions. while Randy McNaught has 3 more games left on his suspension and Lorne Molleken has 2 left to serve....
The coaches behind the Blades bench for these two games did a great job!!!

There was a fair number of Blades fans/parents who were there...It is always good to see support for the guys. I even talked to some fans who lived in Saskatoon but now reside in Alberta.

Our bus driver Ken was awesome!!!

Here are some pictures that I took from my camera phone @ both games.

Someone wanted to have a bit of fun so they slapped this bib that says "Get Messy" onto Ralph,he is the guy who helps organize the bus trips and does an awesome job!!!!!

I will be wearing the new blue hat at the the rest of the Blades playoff games that the Blades play. Home and Road games.

I hope to somehow put some Blades logos on it.

Welcome To Red Deer... Blades win 2-1 in Overtime!!!!

Wow after about a 6 and a half hour bus ride to Red Deer I checked into the hotel and had supper at the Enmax Centrium. This game was very close and kudos to Red Deer for giving the Blades a battle

The scoring was started by the Blades but the Rebels tied it up.

We were seated in the upper level and it was a good seat because you could see everything.

The time of possession was equal, and the Blades battled through the suspensions and won.

I met Shineyshoes and Tiny from the WHLfans.ca message board.

Marek Viedensky scored the OT winner.

If the Blades win tomorrow night that is great but if they loose tomorrow and win game #5 that means that Siemens,Dzuirzynski, and Acolatse would return return for the next series.

I will add the pictures later........

I have to run.... Game #4 tomorrow!!!!! Go Blades Go!!!!!!!!!!!

Alot of 2-0 Series Leads In This years 1st Round. Blades & Rebels Game #2 Suspensions Announced

Only 1 series: the Calgary VS Moose Jaw series is NOT at 2-0 it is sitting at 3 games to 1 for the Warriors.

Watch the video on the Blades website if you have not seen it.... Very poor decision for the Blades to do that...... but was it justified??

Josh Cowen for the Rebels recieved 4 games for his part, for the Blades: Randy McNaught recieved 5 games ,Sena Acolatse,Duncan Siemens,Darian Dzuirynski all received 3 game suspensions.and Blades coach Lorne Molleken recieved a 4 game suspension.

The Blades were also fined a total of $4,250 for their actions in game #2. Now hopefully we can move onto games three and four!!

This series should be an awesome one to watch in Red Deer.... I am so glad that I made the choice to travel to Red Deer,as I have said so many times before.

It is going to be a long bus ride though.... But it will be worth it!!

If you are staying in Saskatoon for the games go to Joe's sports bar and watch the games there.

Blades Take A 2-0 Series Lead.

In game #2 tonight it almost looked like an exact replay of last nights game 3-0 after one period.

Jeremy Boyer was in the line-up and Brent Benson was scratched, had his arm in a sling.

The Rebels outshot the Blades. The bridge city bunch are playing the perfect style of hockey to wear down the Rebels. I sat in the upper bowl for this game and watched it with a friend from work. You can definatly see the game better up their because you are on top of it.

Another dissapointing crowd..... when/if the Blades advance to the 2nd round I hope the crowd mumbers will increase.

Hockey fans are missing out on good hockey that is for sure.

Steven Stanford has played 120 minutes of shutout hockey.

The final score was 4-0 Blades.

I missed it but a brawl started in the final minutes of the game... suspensions may result... Stay Tuned.

Both teams now have 2 days off before the seres shifts back to Red Deer for games 3 & 4 on Wednesday and Thursday.

I AM EXCITED FOR NEXT WEEK!!!!!!!! Obviously a sweep would be nice but it may not happen.

I hope to blog from Red Deer,if that does not happen then I will make a blog post on Friday.

Blades Shut-out Rebels.....

Tonight the bridge city bunch welcomed back 3 veteran players to their line-up...Teigan Zahn,Curtis Hamilton and Jyri Niemi all played tonight. It was a big boost. Also Curt Gogol returned to action after his suspension that made him miss the last 3 out of 4 games to end the regular season.

The Rebels had a decent amount of puck possession in the 1st period. The Blades on the other hand played disciplined hockey(something I was worried about) The Blades took 3 penalties in the game compared to Red Deer's 7 penalties.

The Blades out shot the Rebels through 1 period 14-8.

All of the damage was done in the 1st period by the Blades.

The Blades were hitting and this is good,it must continue if the Blades want to wear the Rebels down.

Steven Stanford played well but credit his defence core as well.

As usual rookie forward Brent Benson was doing everything in his power to create something positive for the Blades and he made a hit or attempted a hit and got the worst of it... He was favoring his shoulder, and would later attempt to test it out,see if he could return.... He did not. He may sit out Sunday's game #2.

The Blades pretty much coasted along the rest of the way,but with 4:00 left in the 3rd period Red Deer pulled their goalie..... I could hear from people around me "why are they doing it now"
They were trying to get back into the game and the best way to do that is to have an extra man out there, like a power play. The Rebels did a great job of keeping the puck in the Blades end while their goalie was on the bench.

The Blades take the 1st game 3-0. Curt Gogol was the 3rd star, Steven Stanford was the 2nd star, Gaelan Patterson was the 1st star.

The hit of the game was made by Charles Inglis.

I think we will see Jeremy Boyer take Brent Benson`s place in the line-up (that is if Benson`s shoulder is not 100%.)

Moose Jaw has a 2-0 series lead over the Calgary Hitmen.... I hope the Warriors can take out the Hitmen...that would be awesome.

Anything can happen in the playoffs........

Something that I thought was very creative... Their were white cardboard banner type signs with a handful of players last names, and so those were spotted all around the arena, I think those props will be joining the booster club in Red Deer next week... A trip that I am VERY excited to make!!!!!!!!!!!!

Game 2 goes Sunday...same place,same time.

Round #1 Game #1 Blades VS Rebels!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tonight the Saskatoon Blades kick off the 2010 WHL playoffs with home ice advantage.

Here is a good preview from the Blades website.

I hope the fans come out in big bunches..... The Blades should be glad to know that they will have fan support on the road as well.

Good News For The Blades....

One day before the Blades begin their series with the Red Deer Rebels, the 50-50 chance of Teigan Zahn and Curtis Hamilton playing in the playoffs this early is a reality.... That is good news for the team and us the fans..... It is also know that Jyri Niemi will play in game #1.......

That is all for now. Look for more here tomorrow!!!

On too bigger news. The last 50/50 pot from the final regular season game VS P.A is still up for grabs (obviously you have to have the winning ticket)

If it goes unclaimed past Saturday March 20th @ Noon. The 50/50 pot for game #1 will START @ $8,000..... That growing amount would enter World Junior 50/50 territory......

Shaw TV is showing the Vancouver Giants VS Kamloops Blazer series.

The WHL Playoffs are almost here!!!!!

Blades Set To Face Red Deer in 1st Round.... Lose To PA

The Blades rounded out the season with a 7-3 letdown to the Raiders.

It is the #3 seeded Blades against the #6 seeded Rebels.

The Schedule breaks down like this:

Game #1 Sat the 20th In Saskatoon

Game #2 Sun the 21st In Saskatoon

Game #3 Wed the 24th In Red Deer

Game #4 Thurs the 25th In Red Deer

Game #5 (If Necessary) Sat the 27th In Saskatoon

Game # 6 (If Necessary) Mon the 29th In Red Deer

Game #7 (If Necessary) Wed the 31st In Saskatoon

I do not know who the Blades could possibly get back from injury.... Jyri Niemi is the only one that seems possible for this series, that would be a boost no doubt.

It should be a good series and may the best team win!!!

Blades Win The Last Home Game of 09/10....

The Blades were resting veterans for the playoffs I think... Klassen and Dzuirzynski were healthy scratches this game....While Darren Dietz,Levi Bews,Lukas Sutter and Davis Vandane all dressed for this game. I thought that all of these guys played well... especially Levi Bews because he was driving to the net hard very often, and even took out Jamie Tucker once. He also registered his 1st WHL point an assist... Congrats go out to him!!!!!

The game was close until the 2nd period when the Blades started to score and put the game away.

There were no fights in this game but the game did become heated.

The final score was 4-1 for the Blades.

Charles Inglis was awarded the hit of the game and Duncan Siemens was awarded the Hardest Working Player.

Steven Stanford was star #1,Marek Viedensky was star #2 and Duncan Siemens was the 3rd star.

After the game Lorne Molleken was handed the microphone and on behalf of the entire Blades organization he thanked the fans for their loyalty and support.

The Blades can NOT catch the Brandon Wheat Kings for 2nd place in the conference.

They just have to wait and see what happens with the rest of the eastern conference.

The Blades complete the home and home with the Raiders tomorrow night in PA.

The bridge city bunch can finish with 101 points which is a pretty decent season in my opinion.

The 5050 jackpot was over $8,000!!!!!!!! Highest of the season........... The attendance was over 6,000.

The Blades awards banquet is on Monday March 15th.

I expect for those same rookies to play tomorrow night in PA...no sense dressing all of the veterans.

Congrats go out to Steven Stanford for making the top 5 plays of the week... His save was #4,it was against the Brandon Wheat Kings.

Playoffs... YEAH!!!!!!!!

The Blades only have 2 games left to finish out the regular season against PA.

It is not 100% clear as too who the Blades will play but it is looking like Red Deer.

Just wait until it becomes official.

I am excited that I am going to Red Deer!!!!! (Assuming the games are on the 23rd and 24th) if not then I have to do some more scrambling with work haha.

The Blades are a thin unit right now with 3 players still injured...Zahn,Hamilton,Niemi. Gogol has 2 games left on his suspension.

BRING IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

IT' S PLAYOFF TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Let me just say this: I LOVE ROADTRIPS!!!!!!

Blades Fall to Eberle and the Pats......

The Regina Pats have had the Blades' number as of late...shutting out the bridge city bunch 3-0 in a previous match up and this game... Lets say the Blades had their glimpses of offence but were dare I say: Outmatched? by the Pats.

Jordan Eberle pretty much controlled the game....every time he touched the puck something positive happened.

The game was a close game though. The Blades just had trouble taking advantage of powerplay chances.

Adam Morrison played a good game tonight.

Again Lukas Sutter impressed me tonight. I think he will make the team as a 16 year old rookie next season. He is also good on faceoffs. Not afraid to mix it up either...to me he does not look like a 15 year old,but maybe a 1 year veteran of the WHL in the way he plays, his hockey sense is decent and I think the Blades found a good one in him!!!!!!

Stefan Elliott: WOW was he ever on his game tonight!!!! He was awarded 2nd star and Hardest Working Player. He also notched a goal and an assist tonight. I hope he comes back to the Blades next year because the way he is progressing right now and if he had a good camp next fall in Colorado. He could possibly be a 6th or 7th defencemen their..... I still think he will be in a Blades uniform next season but I am just tossing that out there.

Darian Dzuirzynski was awarded the Hit of the Game. Which is no surprise cause he loves to dish out hits.

There was a fight or something close too it, but Josh Nicholls was not really a willing participant because he was just ducking and trying to avoid getting punched. Carter Ashton was the agresser in this battle.

The Blades lost this game 3-2 but gave it their all....

Regina has played well at the CUC this season and even though the Pats are only playing for pride they did a damn fine job!!!!

2 games left for the Blades a home and home against the Raiders this weekend.

I also picked up my playoff tickets tonight and signed up for the booster club 1st round playoff road trip....where that still has not been determined yet... I am hoping for Red Deer or Moose Jaw.

I can not wait to watch the Blades on the road again!!!!!!!!!

I watched the 3rd period with a buddy who I play soccer with and he is an Oilers fan so he was their to see Eberle and he left happy but he still was cheering for the Blades too. haha.

(I still can not believe that the Oilers and Flames made a trade) It is a crazy world I tell you.

A 2nd straight East Division Bannner looks less and less posible with Brandon beating Moose Jaw 8-2 tonight.

That is all for now. I'm out!!!!!!!

Blades Wash Away Warriors......

Steven Stanford got the start tonight and he was SOLID... if it was not for him the Warriors probably would have won this game.

I was able to see Lukas Sutter for the 1st time and let me say this he may be physically big and strong enough to play in the WHL because he is already 6'0 199lbs. That is an impressive size for a kid his age but he is a Sutter and the Sutter's take their hockey very seriously.

The Warriors were taking it to the Blades for the 1st part of the game but in the 2nd and 3rd periods the bridge city bunch came out and started to play like a team.

One fight in the game... Sam Klassen fought Dallas Ehrhardt and I think Erhardt must have landed a punch and it sent Klassen down,I am not 100% sure how he got the cut on his face....some people around me said he hit his head on the ice... Not sure how much truth there is too that but he was back out there once he received stitches.

The Blades powered their way back into the game scoring 2 goals to give them life again.

I was hoping to see Darren Dietz play but maybe tomorrow against Regina he will dress.

I hope Lorne Molleken keep Sutter in the line-up because I thought he played well.

The final score was 4-2.

Somehow Darian Dzuirzynski was awarded both Hardest Working Player and Hit of the Game. He did get a goal to so that does help his case.

As I mentioned in my post earlier today the Pats are in town for one final battle tomorrow.... It should be a good one.

The Blades are only 1 point back of Brandon right now and Brandon plays Moose Jaw tomorrow.

A fight to the end it will be!!!!

Blades Gameday VS Warriors..... Gogol Suspended for 3 games. 3 Home Games Left Before The Playoffs!!!!!!!

I am just reading now that Curt Gogol was suspended for an "attack" on the Hitmen's Zak Stebner. I guess we will have to wait until the playoffs to see him again. He may be used sparing ly though.

With that being said, the Blades being one of the tougher teams to play against...they will have to be careful AND NOT TAKE STUPID PENALTIES!!!!!!!!!

The Blades are still battling it out with the Brandon Wheat Kings for 1st in the Eastern Division and 2nd spot in the conference as well.

Only 3 points separates the two teams. There still can be movement in the standings because some teams have as many as 4 games left.

This will be the first game that Blades fans will be able to see Lukas Sutter, and Darren Dietz. (if they play) The chances are good that we will be able to see them strut their stuff.

If the playoffs started today Saskatoon would play Red Deer...If this happens I would be very excited to travel to Red Deer.

There are 5 teams that the Blades could face...Kootenay,Red Deer,Medicine Hat,Moose Jaw and Swift Current.

In order for the Blades to face Medicine Hat, the Tigers would have to drop 2 spots..I do not think that is going to happen..you never know. hahaha

In order for the Blades to face Kootenay in the 1st round the Rebels and would have to trade places. This is very much a possibility because only 3 points separates the two teams... If I were the Blades I would not want to face Kootenay but anything can happen in the second season.

In order for the Blades to play the Warriors they would have to take over 2nd place. Somewhat of a stretch but it could be done.. I would LOVE to see games in the Crushed Can because oddly enough I have never seen a hockey game in Moose Jaw.

Swift Current would have to some impressive standings climbing in order to face the Blades in the first round.

Whoever the Blades are matched with in the 1st round will give them a challenge.

Just a reminder again the Blades play the Warriors tonight at the CUC and for the last time Blades fans will be able to see Jordan Eberle in a Pats jersey on Wednesday night!!!!!!!!!!!

The Blades once again close out the season with a home and home against the Prince Albert Raiders.

Here is my question to you.... Who would you want the Blades to battle in the 1st round of the 2010 WHL Playoffs?

As for me? I do not really care but I would prefer a team whose arena I have not seen a game in yet.

Sunday, March 7, 2010

Blades Fall Apart VS HItmen.

I said I was going to watch this game but I work early tomorrow and why watch the game when the Blades got controlled or had no chance?

The Hitmen powerplay won them the game .

The score was 6-1.

A friend sent me a text message and said the magic number is 2.... two Blades losses or 2 Brandon wins would mean the Blades would face the Swift Current Broncos in the 1st round. I think that is how it would match up? Swift Current does not have use of the Credit Union I Plex because of the Womens Curling event that occupies the facility. So where will the Broncos play their "home games" ? Regina? or Lethbridge? I would be in favor of Regina because it is obviously closer to Saskatoon but I just want to see some Blades playoff games on the road. Do not get me wrong I would travel to Lethbridge to see 2 games as well.

The Blades face Moose Jaw on Tuesday night and will have 2 home games after that...Regina on the 10th and Prince Albert on the 12th.

Saturday, March 6, 2010

Blades Make A Comeback. Defeat Oil Kings.

The Blades fell behind 3-0. Steven Stanford got the boot after 2 goals. I bet that most of the people listening to the game or watching it on WHL Web TV did not think that the Blades would come back. The powerplay tonight for the Blades was clicking with 3 powerplay goals.

6-4 was the final score...this win sets the Blades up for a tilt tomorrow against the Calgary Hitmen. It also erases a 2 game loosing streak.

I will probably be able to catch some of the 3rd period on tv...or I may just rewatch the game at Midnight.

Blades Enter Oil Country.

I knew Jyri Niemi was injured but I didnt know that he broke his finger until now. one 15 year old will play for the Blades tonight. Lucas Sutter as well as 16 year old blueliner Darren Dietz.

Some positive news for the Blades is that they do not have to play against Tomas Vincour, as he was traded to Vancouver at the trade deadline.

Hopefully the Blades can gain some points this weekend because Brandon just does not want to lose.

Enjoy the game.

Blades Whipped By Wheat Kings.

I have had a long exhausting past two days and as a result I fell asleep numerous times while watching this game. I only saw Gaelan Patterson's goal.

The battle was a close one and I can not really comment much, but the final score was 5-3 for the Wheat Kings, and now the Blades trail Brandon by one point but they still have 1 game in hand I think.

Some good news to report!!! Curt Gogol played tonight. The Blades have called up Lucas Sutter, and Darren Dietz to join Levi Bews as the call-ups for the rest of the season.

The Blades now travel into Alberta for dates against the Oil Kings &
Hitmen (This game will be televised on Rogers Sportsnet on Sunday)
What do you think? Will the Blades reach 100 points?
