Blades Claw Past Raiders..... Just Barely.

WOW what a game!!!!

Steven Stanford got the start against his former team and Dayln Flett was put in goal to face the Blades. Brendon Wall was a scratch for the Raiders but Tyler Yaworski did play.

In the 1st period the Blades outshot the Raiders 16-4. The puck would not settle down and the play was just kinda sloppy throughout the period. Each team had chances but none really good enough to break the scoreless tie.
In the 2nd period the Blades opened the scoring, all 3 overagers got on the score sheet with this goal.
The game suddenly got worse for the Blades though as it seemed like the wheels were falling off of the recently well oiled machine that the Blades operate, the Raiders scored 3 goals...
You know when the Blades and Raiders play there is bound to be a fight and yes there was one and it was between 17 year old Tyler Yaworski and 16 year old Duncan Siemens... As many Blades fans know Seimens in a real talent. He did get the better of Yaworski in fact Tyler Yaworski was not even able to knock off his opponent's lid. (You can no longer remove your helmet prior to a fight,it must remain on your head) I was not expecting this fight between two former teammates, but obviously they did fight and it was a pretty decent one at that.
It looked as if the Raiders had put this game in the bag when the score was 3-1 but there was a full period left to play.
The Raiders continued to play solid in front of Flette, but it almost seemed like a carbon copy of last night's Blades/Pats game (same score, same thing happened.)
The Blades put relentless pressure on Prince Albert for approximately the last 8-10 minutes of the game.
They did manage to tie the game, Josh Nicholls was even awarded a penalty shot!!!!! He did not succeed though.
The Blades out shot the Raiders 45-25.
The hit of the game came from Josh Nicholls, and the Hardest Working Player was Gaelan Patterson, both picked by the Voice of the Blades: Les Lazaruk
So the game went into overtime. Each team had 2 shots, the chances were probably equal.
The extra frame solved nothing.
Too the shoot-out we go!!!!!!
The Blades two shooters were: Burke Gallimore, Jeremy Boyer....they both scored goals.
The Raiders two shooters were Dustin Cameron and Jordan Hickmott and no these two could not provide any goals.
The Blades won in a shootout 4-3 & Steven Stanford defeats his former team.
The Blades now have 16 wins on the season and 35 points which is the best in the Eastern Conference and the entire WHL.
A highlite clip is on the Blades website.it shows all of the key parts of the game & shootout.
The Blades now have 6 days to practice and rest before their next game on friday the 13th verses the Brandon Wheat Kings in the Wheat city & their next home game is a week from yesterday Saturday the 14th against the Prince George Cougars minus Brett Connolly.
